Ástvinir, jarðtengingin mín - Loved Ones, Keeping Me Grounded
Hughreystandi - Gunnlaug E. Friðriksdóttir
Ég fæddist og ólst upp í Vestmannaeyjum þar sem ólgandi Atlantshafið umlykur tilveru bæjarbúa og síðan þá hef ég oftast búið á stöðum þar sem sést vel til sjávar. Í dag bý ég aðeins 75 metra frá sjónum og fer daglega meðfram sjávarsíðunni til að komast erinda minna á Akureyri. Mér hefur alltaf þótt heillandi að sjá hvernig sjórinn endurspeglar bláma himinsins, birtuna, veðrið og árstíðirnar en frá unga aldri hef ég samt viljað halda ákveðinni fjarlægð frá þessum kalda og óútreiknanlega krafti náttúrunnar. Það er nefnilega aldrei að vita hvernig öldurnar haga sér og skjótt skipast veður í lofti. Það höfum við sannarlega reynt á eigin skinni síðustu mánuði þegar samkomubönn og sóttvarnir fóru að lita samskipti fólks og flestir umgangast nú mest sína nánustu fjölskyldu. Það tekur tíma að venjast óvissu og breyttum lífsháttum en líklega er best að leita hughreystingar í viðhorfi Tikka-tú, eins og hún orðaði það í bók Tove Janson „Vetrarundur í Múmíndal“: „Allt er óvisst í þessari veröld og það fellur mér einmitt best“. |
Reassuring - Gunnlaug E. Friðriksdóttir
I was born and raised in Vestmannaeyjar (The Westman Islands) where the townspeople’s daily life is surrounded by the turbulent Atlantic Ocean, and ever since then I’ve mostly lived in places where there is an unobstructed view to the sea. My current home is only 75 metres from the shore and I go along the coastline every time I have an errand in town. It has always fascinated me how the sea reflects the light, the weather, the seasons and the blue of the sky, but ever since I was a small girl I’ve been careful to keep a safe distance from this cold and unpredictable force of nature. One can never know how the waves will behave and conditions change quickly. We have certainly been reminded of that in recent months, when assembly bans and infection control took centre stage, and most people are now only in contact with their immediate family. It takes time to get used to the uncertainty and a new lifestyle but it’s probably best to adopt the wisdom of Too-ticky as she phrased it in Tove Janson’s book “Moominland Midwinter”: “All things are so very uncertain, and that's exactly what makes me feel reassured.” |
